If you want to build your DIY500 module as a dedicated instrument preamplifier (like having a direct box permanently installed), you'd use a direct box (also referred to as direct inject or DI) transformer instead of a microphone input transformer. The table below lists your choices.

The designations R7, C2, and R8 refer to termination components connected across the transformer secondary, as shown in the DIY500 schematic. R8 provides loading, and R7+C2 comprise a zobel network, when necessary.
